ME 316 โ€” Solid Mechanics

Undergraduate solid mechanics, with the emphasis on setting a problem up correctly before solving it.

Undergraduate South Dakota Mines

Stress and strain, constitutive response, torsion, bending, deflection, buckling and combined loading.

The emphasis is on formulation. A student who can state what is assumed, which equilibrium and compatibility conditions apply and what the boundary conditions mean has done the part of the problem that transfers; the algebra that follows is the part a computer can check. Computational examples appear where they make an assumption visible rather than where they replace a derivation.
